At Actual, we like bikes. A lot.
We’re not sure they’re going to solve all the problems of the world, but we’re pretty sure they won’t make ‘em worse.
Oh, and don’t get us wrong: we think you’re sexy even when you don’t ride your bikes – but we’re positive that you’re even sexier when you do.
So, we made space for bikes. Inside the Cafe. So you can roll your bike in out of the cold, hard world and have it keep you company while you drink your coffee or eat your lunch. Don’t be embarrassed if you’re not on a vintage track bike, or a one-of-a-kind Italian gold-plated number, or some featherweight aerospace kinda thing. Your rusty old Huffy is beautiful. Trust us.
We’ve worked hard to minimize internal combustion related to the Cafe. To that end, we’ve been experimenting with various cargo bike solutions, including bikes by Xtracycle, trailers by Bikes at Work, and a Danish Baker’s Bike from My Dutch Bike.
We’re partnered with the East Bay Bike Coalition to sell their excellent area bike maps in the Cafe. And, if you’re an EBBC member, we’ll give you a discount. Just show your membership card.
We also made some frankenbikes that do work for us: a bingo hopper bike that we use for our weekly Bicycle Bingo fundraisers, and a machine called Sparkle Motion which is inspired by old penny-arcade movie viewers. But bike-powered. (It hangs out in the Cafe sometimes at parties, making people happy. We think it’s pretty cool.)
So…watch out for buses, and keep the rubber side down.
